Silver supplements:
an introduction

There’s so much information out there — and so many different products and terms! You may feel like you need to start at square one.
Are all silver products equally effective? Which ones should I use or avoid?

Here’s what it all comes down to:
Concentration: (parts per million)
Particle size: (small & evenly distributed)
Ionization: (electrically charged particles)

Based on looking at these factors, you can assess products out there, and which sound right for you!
Let’s look at some of the most typical products you will come across.

Colloidal
Silver

Overview:

‘Colloidal’ is a more generic term than silver hydrosol. At its most basic, this is a suspension of silver particles, some ionized, and some not ionized.

Concentration:

Concentrations can vary widely, at anything from 1-20,000 ppm

Particle Size:

also extremely variable (10-1000 nm), Ionization too varies and is small, with an average 8-12% charge

Other notes:

  • Efficacy and toxicity risk will depend upon the dosage of silver and impurities it contains
  • With the variability in particle size and low ionization, colloidal silvers may require larger dosages to achieve similar efficacy to other products: this can increase the potential risk for toxicity.
  • Because most silver is metallic and therefore inactive, it gets excreted as waste without any health benefits.
  • Many over the counter testers don’t accurately assess the silver content, which may increase toxicity chances.

Silver
Hydrosol

Overview:

Hydrosol simply means a natural element is made soluble in water (hydro-soluble). Hydrosol is the product that we make here at SilverTonix. It is a liquid mixture of positively charged silver ions and silver nanoclusters suspended in pure water. Silver solids are made water soluble by being extremely small—less than a nanometer.

Concentration:

10 ppm (parts per million)

Particle Size:

Particle size as small as 0.8 nm

Other notes:

  • These products contain an equilibrium between the ionized silver and the metallic nanoparticles. This is what gives a product its unique composition.
  • A refined, controlled type of colloidal silver, this product has earned the designation of ‘silver hydrosol’ through rigorous testing.
  • Because the particle size and concentration is more closely controlled, it’s safe to say that the chance of toxicity is extremely low compared to other ‘colloidal silver’ products, whether home made or otherwise.

Ionic
Silver

Overview:

There are a range of ionic silver products used for various medical applications. One of the most common products is silver nitrate, a common silver salt that has been used in the past for its antiseptic properties.

Concentration:

1,000-10,000ppm

Particle Size:

Pure silver nitrate doesn’t have suspended nanoparticles of metallic silver. This is the main difference.

Other notes:

  • Unlike SilverTonix silver hydrosol, pure ionic silver is highly reactive and absolutely can’t be interchanged with the applications discussed here. Silver nitrate for example is highly toxic and corrosive. Its application in medical situations should only be done by a professional.
Background

The historical case
for silver

The special qualities of silver were observed early on in human civilization. That’s continued today, with technologies continuing to be made with silver at their center.

Ancient Civilizations that
recorded silver use:
  • Greece
  • Rome
  • Egypt
  • Macedonia
  • Phoenicia
Naturally
Found in:
  • Whole grains
  • Milk
  • Mushrooms
  • Spring water
  • Tap water
Modern
applications:
  • Silver spoons were given for aiding in protection from illness
  • Dropping a silver coin in water jugs was common practice to help aid in purifying water
  • Silver nitrate – 1880s – in use before the discovery of antibiotics
  • Silver sutures to help heal wounds faster
  • Silver Sulfadiazine – treatment in burn centers
  • Numerous medical tools and devices use silver plating for its biocompatibility and antimicrobial qualities see more

Make a silver decision

Is adding silver
supplements a good fit?

We see SilverTonix as a piece to the puzzle of building a healthy life!

For the overwhelming majority of people and pets, regular use of SilverTonix poses extremely low risk of side effects*.

If you plan to make a silver supplement part of your health and wellness routine, you may want to consult with your doctor.

Please continue with your regular healthy activities and recommended treatments, and don’t consider SilverTonix a replacement for treatment, nor a reason to postpone seeing a health care provider about a medical problem!

You may want to confirm that silver won’t interact with the efficacy of any prescription medicines you are currently taking.

Regulations

Regulations:
how silver is seen

Based on current science, regulatory bodies like the FDA rules that
colloidal silver “has no known functions or benefits in the body
when taken by mouth, and it is not an essential mineral.”

Because of this complicated regulatory status, most manufacturers present their products as complementary or alternative medicines. Due to the rigors of scientific testing and licensing, as well as the complex interrelation of processes in the human body, we don’t present our products as medicines designed to cure a disease or otherwise offer benefits to humans or pets.

That said, we stand behind our products and continue to offer them to the many people who choose to integrate silver into their health regimens.

Homeopathy

Traditionally, especially since the continued expansion of modern medicinal cures like antibiotics, colloidal silver has been associated with homeopathic approaches to wellness, which emphasize integrative, or complementary approaches to health, as opposed to treating symptoms or diseases with therapies and drugs.

It’s important to note that the approach of homeopathy states that using more diluted amounts of remedies may reduce risk and offer benefits*.

Quality

How to assess quality
in silver products

Want to know which silver you can trust—and which you should avoid?

DO:

Only go with a provider that doesn’t lean into marketing terms like “true colloidal silver” or “pure” and “natural” – if
they can’t back it up with numbers.

DON’T:

Don’t trust at-home commercial testers that you buy just anywhere to determine how much silver is in a product. Get silver you can trust!

DO:

Seek a higher rate of active (charged) silver content. Colloidal silver products that have only 10% or so ionic charge will be less useful for you.

DON’T:

Don’t buy products that can’t quantify the purity of their product. Silver and water should be the only ingredients—no traces of other heavy metals or impurities in the water.

DO:

Insist on smaller particle size. Larger silver solid particles are less likely to be bsorbed, meaning you won’t get the benefits of taking the supplement—and it can increase the load of silver being processed by your body.

DON’T:

Don’t assume that the PPM (parts per million) of your supplement is safe. Less is often more, and higher PPM won’t necessarily give you better health results.
